Rain God’s Grace

Lords’ Test India vs England
(
19- 23 July 2007)

The Rain God helped India in securing a draw against England. A defeat seemed inevitable but rain came down to the rescue and the match is abandoned. India escaped just by the skin of their teeth as had lost nine of their second inning wickets.

Chasing 380 to win India tumbled early as no partnership contributed much to the Indian course. The performances of Dinesh Karthik and Mahendra Dhoni are the only bright spots of Indian batting although Ganguly and Laxman stood in the middle for a while. At the end of it India where 282 for nine. The second Test starts at Trent Bridge, Nottingham, on Friday.

For England victory eluded of course can take many positives from the match. The English pace attack seemed strong and capable and Monty shows his capabilities as the new Bedi.

But the star for England was of course Kevin Pieterson for his gritty second innings 134. With out Pietersons’ innings the story might have been different.
